Apple Is Ending Support for These iPhones This Fall. Will Yours Work With iOS 17?

Some older models are getting left behind when Apple’s update hits iPhones.

Apple’s latest software update, iOS 17, is coming this fall, and it’s bringing several new exciting features. Apple will be adding a new Standby mode, a Journal app and a major update to Messages. However, not all iPhone users will be able to use iOS 17 — some older iPhone models are getting left behind, including the iPhone X from 2017.

If you’re not sure which iPhone you’ve got, a quick check in your settings can show you. Open your Settings app and tap General > About. Next to Model Name, you’ll see which iPhone you have.

We’ll tell you how to find out whether your iPhone will be compatible with iOS 17. If you’d like to try out the iOS 17 beta, the public beta will be available in July. Also, check out our list of best iPhones to discover if there’s a newer model that might work for you.

If you’ve got one of these iPhones, you’ll have access to iOS 17 when it’s available this year, Apple said.

What if your iPhone isn’t on the compatibility list?

If your iPhone isn’t listed above, it won’t support iOS 17 and you won’t get a notification to download the newest software. For instance, if you have an iPhone X or older, the latest software you’ll ever be able to use on that phone is iOS 16.

Texas Bill Would Ban Social Media for Minors. Here’s What That Would Mean

The Texas law would allow parents to request the deletion of social media accounts for those under 18.

Texas may soon pass into law one of the most restrictive set of social media rules for minors, including making it illegal for those under 18 to be on social media.

House Bill 186 would not only prohibit minors from creating new social media accounts on services such as TikTok, Instagram and X, but it would require age verification for everyone else creating a new account. Under the law, parents could request a minor’s social media account be deleted and the platform would be required to remove it within 10 days or face fines and lawsuits. Lawmakers who support the bill say it will counter the mental health harm that social media poses to teens.

The bill has passed the Texas House of Representatives and still needs to pass the state senate and get a signature from governor Greg Abbott. A similar law passed in Utah last year was blocked months later by a federal judge. A legal battle over social media restrictions in Florida is also ongoing.
