Today’s NYT Strands puzzle is pretty difficult. The theme threw me off for quite a while. Some of the answers are difficult to unscramble, so if you need hints and answers, read on.

I go into depth about the rules for Strands in this story.

Hint for today’s Strands puzzle

Today’s Strands theme is: Get over it … or get through it.

If that doesn’t help you, here’s a clue: Elements of a certain kind of race.

Clue words to unlock in-game hints

Your goal is to find hidden words that fit the puzzle’s theme. If you’re stuck, find any words you can. Every time you find three words of four letters or more, Strands will reveal one of the theme words. These are the words I used to get those hints but any words of four or more letters that you find will work:

  • SLAT, STALL, STALE, BRAD, CODE, CALL, RICE, DICE

Answers for today’s Strands puzzle

These are the answers that tie into the theme. The goal of the puzzle is to find them all, including the spangram, a theme word that reaches from one side of the puzzle to the other. When you have all of them (I originally thought there were always eight but learned that the number can vary), every letter on the board will be used. Here are the nonspangram answers:

  • HOOP, WALL, FENCE, HURDLE, TUNNEL, BARRICADE

Today’s Strands spangram

Today’s Strands spangram is OBSTACLECOURSE. To find it, start with the O that’s three letters to the right on the top row, and wind down.

Toughest Strands puzzles

Here are some of the Strands topics I’ve found to be the toughest.

#1: Dated slang. Maybe you didn’t even use this lingo when it was cool. Toughest word: PHAT.

#2: Thar she blows! I guess marine biologists might ace this one. Toughest word: BALEEN or RIGHT.

#3: Off the hook. Again, it helps to know a lot about sea creatures. Sorry, Charlie. Toughest word: BIGEYE or SKIPJACK.

These Beats Are Music to Your Wallet — Now Just $59 at Woot

A record-low price makes this a deal worth grabbing before it’s gone

The Beats Studio Buds are down to just $59 at Woot right now — that’s $91 off the usual $150 retail price and the lowest we’ve seen this model go. They’re brand-new and backed by a one-year limited Apple warranty. For context, the best price we’d previously tracked was $69 on Amazon.

The sale is live for four more days on Woot or until stocks run out. All colors are available and with the Amazon Big Spring Sale starting tomorrow, this is kind of deal worth grabbing before it’s gone.

Sound-wise, the Studio Buds punch well above their price. You get active noise cancellation to block out the world when you need to focus, and a transparency mode for when you want to stay aware of your surroundings — two modes that cover most everyday listening situations pretty well.

The battery can last eight hours from the buds alone, and the charging case bumps that up to 24 hours total. The IPX4 water resistance means you don’t have to think twice about wearing them to the gym, and while Beats is an Apple-owned brand, it works with both Android and Apple devices.

For more spring sale savings, take a look at our guide for the best headphone deals. And if you want a phone to go with your shiny new purchase, scroll through the best phone deals.

Why this deal matters

At $59, it’s hard to find much to complain about. This is a great price on a solid pair of earbuds from a brand that knows audio — and with Spring Sale a few hours away, grabbing a deal this good before the main event is a nice bonus.
