Best alcohol delivery services in 2021: Drizly, Saucey, Minibar and more

A New Year’s Eve Champagne shortage may be looming. Stock up now with the best on-demand booze delivery services in 2021.

This story is part of Holiday Gift Guide 2021, our list of ideas, by topic, by recipient and by price, to help you discover the perfect gift.

With a dismal Champagne harvest caused by extreme weather including frost and wildfires, there’s talk of a Champagne shortage looming for the holidays. While you shouldn’t panic and the chances of no bubbles being available is slim, to get the bottles that you want it’s better to be safe than sorry. Fortunately, the best online booze and wine delivery services are still flush with the good stuff, so you can get your favorite Champagne delivered now and be ready to pop those corks when the ball drops on New Year’s.

There are a handful of reliable liquor delivery services that make ordering alcohol to your door easy. Plus, ordering booze and liquor online generally means a bigger selection of beer, wine, spirits, hard seltzer or any other adult drinks you want. Many of these booze delivery services function just like Uber Eats or GrubHub, sourcing inventory from local liquor stores and then employing on-demand delivery drivers to get the goods to you, often in an hour or less.

Note that alcohol delivery laws vary by state, so not every service is available everywhere. Many states, however, have deemed liquor stores an essential service during the pandemic, and are allowing delivery of alcohol from restaurants and liquor stores where they may not have in the past. Inventory also varies by store and service, so if something is out of stock now it may come back in stock soon. We update this list periodically.

To stock up on craft beer, fancy booze, great wine and Champagne without ever having to put pants on, check out this list of the best wine and liquor delivery services to try in 2021. Just remember that the same rules that have always applied to alcohol apply now, perhaps more than ever: Enjoy wine and spirits in moderation and never drink and drive, but always tip your delivery person.

Hint for today’s Strands puzzle

Today’s Strands theme is: Sleep tight

If that doesn’t help you, here’s a clue: Zzzzz…

Clue words to unlock in-game hints

Your goal is to find hidden words that fit the puzzle’s theme. If you’re stuck, find any words you can. Every time you find three words of four letters or more, Strands will reveal one of the theme words. These are the words I used to get those hints, but any words of four or more letters that you find will work:

  • BEDS, MINE, TAKE, TAKES, TAKER, STAKE, LATS, EARL, PLUG, PLUGS, ROUT, MIKE, DATE

Answers for today’s Strands puzzle

These are the answers that tie into the theme. The goal of the puzzle is to find them all, including the spangram, a theme word that reaches from one side of the puzzle to the other. When you’ve got all of them (I originally thought there were always eight but learned that the number can vary), every letter on the board will be used. Here are the nonspangram answers:

  • MASK, EARPLUGS, MELATONIN, MEDITATION, MOUTHGUARD

Today’s Strands spangram

Today’s Strands spangram is BEDTIME. To find it, start with the B that’s five letters down on the farthest row to the left and wind across.
