Disney Plus Will Follow ESPN in Rolling Out Vertical Video for the TikTok Generation

The vertical video content is meant to appeal to younger viewers and will begin appearing later this year.

Disney plans to introduce short-form vertical videos on its Disney Plus streaming app this year after the format proved successful with ESPN’s «Verts» last year.

The company made the announcement this week at its annual Global Tech & Data Show held at CES 2026, where executives from Disney discussed tools for its advertising partners and new features for its streaming services.

In an interview with the website Deadline, Erin Teague, Disney’s executive vice president for product management, said the vertical videos could take on many different forms, from original shorts to clips from social media to fashioned clips from TV shows and movies in Disney’s library.

Teague, a former YouTube executive, said that the company wants to create «bite-sized experience» and develop daily viewing habits in the Disney Plus app among its viewers.

Disney also owns ESPN, which debuted vertical videos on its app in the second half of last year as part of an app relaunch. Disney said at CES that its «Verts» have been successful. «The experience will evolve as it expands across news and entertainment and delivers a more personalized, dynamic experience that reinforces Disney Plus as a must-visit daily destination,» Disney said in its announcement.
