You Can Now Use ChatGPT to Drool Over Houses You Can’t Afford

The real-estate app Zillow is just one of many others that users will be able to access within the chatbot.

There’s something special to me about logging into real-estate site Zillow and scrolling through hundreds of listings for homes I’ll never be able to afford. It’s also especially sacred when I click into a listing for a mega-mansion and begin to pick apart all of the silly design choices. «Ew, you really went with that backsplash…»

It’s an activity that is aspirational, delusional and now, AI-driven.

At OpenAI’s Dev Day on Monday, the company announced that it’s launching a Zillow app inside ChatGPT — one of the first to go live in OpenAI’s new app ecosystem. The feature lets you bring your real estate doomscrolling habit straight into the chatbot.

You can type, «Zillow, show me homes under $800K in Tampa,» and ChatGPT will pull up live listings, with photos, maps and prices. From there, you can click through to Zillow to schedule a tour or message an agent without leaving the ChatGPT conversation.

(Disclosure: Ziff Davis, CNET’s parent company, in April filed a lawsuit against ChatGPT maker OpenAI, alleging it infringed Ziff Davis copyrights in training and operating its AI systems.)

«The Zillow app in ChatGPT shows the power of AI to make real estate feel more human,» John Weisberg, head of AI at Zillow, said in a statement. «Together with OpenAI, we’re bringing a first-of-its-kind experience to millions — a conversational guide that makes finding a home faster, easier and more intuitive.»

The launch is part of a much larger push from OpenAI. CEO Sam Altman introduced the company’s new App SDK preview during the event, allowing developers to build apps directly into ChatGPT.

OpenAI is launching integration with partners Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Figma, Expedia, Spotify and Zillow, all available on Monday in English-speaking markets outside of the EU. ChatGPT is also planning to bring apps to EU users soon.

More partners are slated to launch later this year, including DoorDash, Peloton, Uber, TripAdvisor, OpenTable, Target and more. That means users can interact with third-party services without leaving the chatbot conversation.

How to See the Spectacular Supermoon Dominate the Sky on Monday

You won’t need a telescope to see the supermoon tonight.

Skygazers, get ready to head outside and spot the supermoon tonight. The full moon will appear on Monday, Oct. 6, and you shouldn’t have any trouble seeing it, as it’ll be the first of four consecutive supermoons.

NASA says a supermoon is any moon within 90% of perigee, which occurs when the moon is closest to Earth. During this time, the moon is approximately 226,000 miles away from our planet, roughly 25,000 miles closer than when it is in apogee.

The benefit for us on Earth is that the moon will appear to be bigger and brighter than usual. This is the best time to view it outside of a lunar eclipse and the subsequent blood moon.

The moon will rise around sunset on Oct. 6, reaching peak illumination at 11:47 p.m. ET. It’ll be the brightest thing in the sky, and you won’t need any help from a magnification device to see it. However, you should probably bring something if you intend to use this opportunity to take some memorable moon photos. The only thing that’ll obscure your view of it is cloud cover.

If you can’t make it outside on Oct. 6, the moon will remain mostly full from Oct. 4 through Oct. 9, so there are plenty of chances to see it.

October’s full moon also has the distinction of being the harvest moon. Typically, September and October share this distinction depending on which month has the full moon closest to the autumn equinox. Thanks to full moons occurring so early in the month right now, that distinction goes to October. During years where September gets the name, October’s full moon is referred to as the hunter’s moon.

iPhone Designer Jony Ive Is Reportedly Running Into Snags With AI Project

The famed Apple designer is apparently working on a physical AI accessory.

Jony Ive, designer of the iPhone and iPod, is working on a new product with OpenAI but is running into technical challenges, according to a report from the Financial Times on Sunday.

(Disclosure: Ziff Davis, CNET’s parent company, in April filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging it infringed Ziff Davis copyrights in training and operating its AI systems.)

According to the FT report, the product is a screenless, palm-size device that takes in audio and visual information and responds to requests. However, OpenAI doesn’t have the size or scale of Amazon or Google, and it can barely handle the computing resources necessary for ChatGPT users.

For customers to have a bespoke AI device, a lot more processing power would be required. That could be why OpenAI entered a multibillion-dollar data center partnership with AMD on Monday. Company CEO Sam Altman praised the deal on X in a post, saying, «The world needs much more compute.»

Another challenge has been tuning the device to be nonintrusive. It has trouble knowing when to finish a conversation, a known issue with ChatGPT. The team is trying to ensure the device isn’t sycophantic or too eager to agree with everything the user says.

A representative for OpenAI didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

With the popularity of AI chatbots, more companies are aiming to extend the AI experience beyond the phone or desktop and into the outside world.

Last year, the Rabbit R1 and Humane AI Pin were marketed as multimodal AI devices separate from your smartphone, taking in surrounding information and controlled mostly by voice. Both devices failed to impress, although the Rabbit R1 did receive a major update last month.

Meta has invested heavily in AI-powered wearables with its Ray-Ban and Ray-Ban Display glasses, with sales for the Meta Ray-Ban tripling this past year

According to a report from Grand View Research, the wearable AI market is expected to grow to be worth $165 billion by 2030.

OpenAI acquired Ive’s design company, io, in May for $6.5 billion.
