Adding personal pronouns to your Zoom name only takes a minute

Take an important step toward inclusivity by adding your gender and identity pronouns to your Zoom account. Here’s how to do it.

You may have noticed some of your friends and co-workers adding pronouns to the end of their name on platforms like Zoom, Instagram, Facebook and others. Doing so helps make spaces more inclusive of transgender, gender nonconforming and gender nonbinary people by making sure you aren’t assuming anyone’s gender identity based on their appearance, according to GLSEN.

Adding pronouns and avoiding automatic use of binary gender expressions has been a major initiative for a number of tech companies including Google, Twitter and LinkedIn. On Zoom, it’s a quick and easy process, and there’s even a dedicated field for pronouns in your profile.

There are a few ways to set your pronouns on Zoom. You can set your pronouns to display for every meeting or only meetings you select. And if you want to add them after you’ve joined a meeting, there’s an option for that too.

Here’s how to add or change your pronouns on Zoom. (Make sure you check out all of our other helpful tips for using Zoom, too.)

How to permanently add your pronouns to your Zoom account

You can add your pronouns through the web portal or through the Zoom app. If you’re using the web portal:

1. Go to the Zoom web portal and sign in using your SSO, Google, Facebook or Zoom account.

2. Click Profile.

3. In the top right corner across from your name, click Edit.

4. Under Display name, there is a field for Pronouns. For example, mine would be «she/her.»

5. Below that field, Zoom asks how you would like to share your pronouns. You can choose to always share or be asked to share after joining a meeting.

6. Click Save changes.

If you’re on the Zoom app, the process is similar but for a slightly different start.

1. Click your initials in the top-right corner and choose Settings.

2. Then click Profile and Edit My Profile. This should take you to your profile in the web portal. The rest of the process is the same.

3. In the top right corner across from your name, click Edit.

4. Below Display name, there’s a field for you to add Pronouns.

5. Under that field, choose your preferred setting for sharing your pronouns. You can choose to share for every meeting or be asked to share after joining a meeting.

6. Click Save changes.

Your pronouns should appear according to your settings from now on.

How to add or change your pronouns during a Zoom meeting

1. After you enter the meeting, click Participants.

2. In the Participants window, hover over your name and click More.

3. From the drop-down menu, click Rename.

4. Add your pronouns in parentheses after your name, and click OK. Just note that this will only change your name for your current meeting, not any others in the future.

Clue words to unlock in-game hints

Your goal is to find hidden words that fit the puzzle’s theme. If you’re stuck, find any words you can. Every time you find three words of four letters or more, Strands will reveal one of the theme words. These are the words I used to get those hints but any words of four or more letters that you find will work:

POND, NOON, NODE, BALE, SOCK, LOVE, LOCK, MOCK, LEER, REEL, GLOVE, DAIS, LEAN, LEAD, REEL

Answers for today’s Strands puzzle

These are the answers that tie into the theme. The goal of the puzzle is to find them all, including the spangram, a theme word that reaches from one side of the puzzle to the other. When you have all of them (I originally thought there were always eight but learned that the number can vary), every letter on the board will be used. Here are the nonspangram answers:

Amazon’s Delivery Drivers Will Soon Wear AI Smart Glasses to Work

The goal is to streamline the delivery process while keeping drivers safe.

Amazon announced on Wednesday that it is developing new AI-powered smart glasses to simplify the delivery experience for its drivers. CNET smart glasses expert Scott Stein mentioned this wearable rollout last month, and now the plan is in its final testing stages.

The goal is to simplify package delivery by reducing the need for drivers to look at their phones, the label on the package they’re delivering and their surroundings to find the correct address.

A heads-up display will activate as soon as the driver parks, pointing out potential hazards and tasks that must be completed. From there, drivers can locate and scan packages, follow turn-by-turn directions and snap a photograph to prove delivery completion without needing to take out their phone.

The company is testing the glasses in select North American markets.

A representative for Amazon didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

To fight battery drain, the glasses pair with a controller attached to the employee’s delivery vest, allowing them to replace depleted batteries and access operational controls. The glasses will support an employee’s eyeglass prescription. An emergency button will be within reach to ensure the driver’s safety.

Amazon is already planning future versions of the glasses, which will feature «real-time defect detection,» notifying the driver if a package was delivered to the incorrect address. They plan to add features to the glasses to detect if pets are in the yard and adjust to low light.
